Subject: Renfrew County Scanner is Winding Down
Hello,
It’s with a heavy heart that I write this message.
As many of you know from past updates, encryption is coming — and with it, the Renfrew County Scanner will no longer operate as it has for so many years. The final day of service will be May 15th.
There are also some personal changes accelerating this timeline. Over the past year, I left a 20-year career and started a new position. Unfortunately, continuing to operate RCS presents a conflict of interest with my new employer. While RCS has never been about the money, it’s also not sustainable as a full-time endeavor — so the time has come to bring it to a close.
This email is going out to both paid subscribers and those who were gifted subscriptions in the past. Here's what to expect over the next few weeks:
Paid Subscribers: I’ll be manually cancelling all active subscriptions shortly after this email is sent. You’ll still have access until your current billing cycle ends, but there will be no renewals. Once your cycle finishes, your login will be deactivated.
Gifted Subscriptions: These will also end by May 15th at the latest, regardless of when they were activated.
I’m still working out whether the social media side of RCS can continue in some form. That’s a conversation I need to have with my employer. I’ll keep you posted when I have an update.
Fire channels are not going encrypted — and I’m hoping to continue streaming them in some form. If I can make that work, it will be free to access. No guarantees, but if it becomes possible, I’ll let everyone know.
I’ve been streaming scanners since 1997, when I was given my first one as a gift. What began as a hobby became a passion, and it’s been an honour to share it with you. Thank you all for the support, the kind words, and for being part of this community.
With gratitude,
RCS
